To all the critics of President
Obama's surprise
Nobel Prize win, consider
this...
If your young child in school
captured such an unexpected high
honor, you'd be proud someone
recognized the great promise and
potential. You'd also be royally
ticked-off if other parents who
disliked your child went out of
their way to slam your child's
unexpected achievement. We like to
congratulate our children when they
do something good and great, not
find ways to burst their balloon of
hope and encouragement.
Why doesn't a new president deserve
at least that much today?
Cynical Republicans and conservative
journalists could find fault with
anyone including Jesus.
On a day of great pride for millions
of Americans, why give them more
time or voice than they deserve, and
see that as the "balance" thing to
do? Does every honor require a slam
now?
Why can't we stop, take a breathe
and feel PROUD of Obama today like
we did that historic day last
November? Wow! In one year he
tackled racism head on which helped
make his election as president even
possible, no easy feat in 300 years!
In his first year as President Obama
he went to Cairo and inspired global
hope in the
Muslim world.
No other president has ever so
boldly tried in four or eight years
in office. Yet they ask...what has
he done? Try getting the billions of
followers of any world great
religion to collectively give anyone
a
second chance!
Mr. Obama reaches out to potential
enemies with great wisdom and
strength and has in one year
inspired the world to TRY and like
and trust America again. NO EASY
THING! GOP leader Steele
conveniently forgets how impossible
a dream that was just one year ago
after eight years of their
closed-minded and ignorant
leadership.
The media should beware of putting
such unrepentant disdain in quality
news discussions and think it comes
across as an appropriate attempt at
balance. On election night after the
victory no network or
news organization stepped on our
great moment of history-making joy.
Why was that the last time Americans
could expect to enjoy a great sense
of surprise, joy and pride about
Obama?
Even the
GOP had the common sense that
night not to have someone say "Obama
was a huge mistake.
What has he done to deserve
election?." The protests worldwide
would have been incredible!
If we are to maintain our
journalistic integrity with
American news consumers, the
responsible news media
must stop inadvertedly doing the
dirty work of the GOP spin machine
by stepping on unexpected great
moments of pride regarding our new
black president. Keep allowing that
and eventually what the media
treasures and covets most, respect,
may be lost forever.
