SJSU

2009 SWINE FLU
Outbreak

April 29 Flu Update

4:00 PM             From: Rose Lee, SJSU Vice-President for Administration and Finance

Many of you have learned that Branham High School in San Jose and at least two California State University
campuses
have identified possible swine flu cases. Please be assured that San Jose State University is closely
monitoring the situation, and making updates available from our home page at http://www.sjsu.edu.

No San Jose State employees or students have reported symptoms of concern at this time. However, please
continue taking precautionary measures to slow the transmission of this flu. If you have flu symptoms, the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention
recommend you stay home and contact your health care provider.

The symptoms of swine flu are very similar to regular seasonal flu symptoms. These include fever, coughing, runny
nose
, sore throat, head and body aches, lack of appetite and lethargy. With swine flu there may be additional
gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Please remember that students unable to attend classes are expected to notify the appropriate faculty members.
Faculty and staff members unable to report for work are obligated to contact their department offices. We are also
advising students, faculty and staff to avoid travel to Mexico, and we need everyone to continue taking common sense
measures to avoid spreading illnesses, such as washing your hands frequently and covering your coughs.
